Hey, I'm Karyn McLelland!

Having taught hundreds of students over the years I love to see the smile on students' faces as they learn to master a song. I create a custom plan for each student based on skills, music type and interest.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you charge?

For 30 minute weekly lessons I charge $22.50 per lesson ($90 per month)

I offer a $10 per month discount for each sibling.

You can schedule weekly online lessons - or on that blustery snow day, there's no need to leave the house.

Can I do online/virtual lessons?

Yes! I offer virtual lessons for students who prefer online learning. While I recommend in-person lessons—especially for younger students—virtual lessons can still be highly effective, particularly for those with prior piano experience.

Can I do in-person lessons?

Absolutely! I teach in-person lessons in Provo, UT. I find that younger beginners benefit the most from in-person instruction, as it allows for better hands-on guidance.

Are there any recitals/performance opportunities?

Yes! My students participate in two recitals each year: a Winter Recital and a Spring Recital. For virtual students, I provide an option to record and submit performances so they can still be a part of the experience.

What level are you comfortable teaching?

I specialize in beginner to intermediate students, helping them build confidence and develop their skills quickly. I also take on advanced students on a case-by-case basis.

What is the youngest student you will take on?

I typically start lessons with students around age 5 or 6, depending on their readiness and attention span. However, I’m happy to discuss each child’s situation individually.

What teaching methods do you use?

I use a structured approach with a coordinated book series that includes lesson books, performance pieces, and theory workbooks. I tailor each lesson to fit my students’ needs, helping them build strong technique while making learning enjoyable. For intermediate and teenage students, I balance traditional instruction with their personal music preferences to keep them engaged. 30+ years teaching piano has taught me that if a student does not enjoy what they are playing, they won't practice!
